CONTEST 2014

In the last edition of the Biennale of Contemporary Music we introduced a composition contest. Among the fourteen applied compositions there were composers from Slovenia, Italy, Mexico and Russia. At the closing concert the woodwind quintet Slowind performed seven selected compositions. The prizes went to: Matej Bonin for the most technically perfect composition, Michele Marelli for the most original composition and Petra Strahovnik for the most acoustically sensitive composition. A special mention received also the composition of Nejc Kuhar. We invited the winners to present themselves again on this year Biennale. At the opening concert we will hear the performance of Nejc Kuhar as composer and performer. Matej Bonin on the other hand has a special music-visual composition that he prepared especially for this concert. Michele Marelli, which is already known to the audience of Koper as an outstanding performer, will not present himself only as a musician but also as a fine artist.

This year we repeated the composition contest and we invited the composers Vinko Globokar, Fabio Nieder, Sidney Corbett, Uroš Rojko and the conductor Steven Loy as members of the jury. The compositions were written for the next instruments: flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello and piano. Ten composers added to our contest: Dario Savron (Slovenia/Italy), Ana Gnjatović (Serbia) and Lorenzo Troiani (Italy), their pieces were selected for the performance during the festival; Raffaele Bardese (Italy), Dan Cui (Corea), Carlotta Ferrari, (Italy), Simon Penšek (Slovenia), Liu Jian (China), Enrique Mendoza Mejia (Mexico), Maria Letizia Michielon (Italy). The jury will discuss the awards especially during the days of the Biennale.
